About us
About CED
We’re one of the nation’s largest electrical supply distribution networks, with over 700 locations across the United States. We distribute just about every piece of equipment that keeps your lights on, your energy flowing and your lifestyle comfortable. As a privately owned company, CED offers a unique approach to wholesale distribution. With a highly decentralized business philosophy, CED empowers its individual locations to make decisions at the local level. The results are businesses that tailor their products and services to the local markets they serve. These highly specialized businesses are customer-focused and driven by entrepreneurial minds. In Michigan, CED operates under the “All-Phase Electric” business name.
Our History
CED & All-Phase History
All-Phase Electric Supply was founded in 1959 by Ronald F. Kinney. Mr. Kinney was a man of extraordinary energy and drive who built his first business from the ground up using every available resource; even an old A&P supermarket sign was used when he converted that building into his first electrical distribution location in downtown Benton Harbor in April 1959.
In June 1999 Ron Kinney decided to sell All-Phase to Consolidated Electrical Distributors “We chose to sell the company now because I wanted to be involved in the transaction,” Kinney said in a news release. “We have selected CED because they understand the electrical distribution industry, have a successful track record in distribution, and value the unique culture and commitment to superior customer service that All-Phase has nurtured since opening our doors in 1959.”
A few years later Mr. Kinney began to expand his company, and in June 1965 he bought out his local competitor, West Michigan Electric, which had stores in Benton Harbor and Kalamazoo. All-Phase quickly grew into the nation’s eighth largest Electrical Distributor, with 93 locations. At its height, All-Phase had locations in 19 states with more than 1,500 employees nationwide.
At the time, the purchase was one of the largest electrical distribution acquisitions in history. All of the All-Phase Electric locations still operate under the DBA of All-Phase Electric, but now can utilize the resources of the larger CED network.
